Celkon Mobiles, one of India’s largest mobile handsets companies, has announced plans to set up a mobile handsets manufacturing facility near Hyderabad.
In a statement, the Hyderabad headquartered company said the proposed modern manufacturing facility would come up at Medchal in the city outskirts. The facility would have four production lines and would eventually enhance the production capacity. However, the company did not disclose the production capacities or investments involved.
Celkon’s chairman and managing director Y Guru said, “We are very pleased to be one of the first companies to unveil our plans in setting up the manufacturing unit. This unit will greatly boost our ability to meet the demand for our game changing products as well as contribute to the overall ‘Make in India’ revolution promoted by the government of India.”
The company said it was one of the early movers in envisioning a manufacturing unit in the country and was actively pursuing the state and centre to bring about a supportive ecosystem to enable handset manufacturing. Celkon said it wanted the governments to promote ancillary units, support infrastructure, capital subsidy, tax breaks and benefits and social infrastructure.
