Datawind has launched PocketSurfer GZ, its latest budget smartphone running Linux operating system for Rs. 1499. Datawind had partnered with Reliance Communications last year. As a part of this, the phone comes bundled with RCOM’s service offerings that will allow users to enjoy free Internet access for a year.
Datawind said that the phone will come with a touch screen and feature a rear camera with flash. It did not share complete specifications of the phone.
Commenting on the latest affordable smartphone, Suneet Singh Tuli, CEO of DataWind, said: We are focused on driving the cost downward to a level where access to technology becomes universally affordable and democratization of technology finds its true meaning. Therefore, this new launch of smartphone at just Rs. 1499 is a step in that direction. This will certainly enhance the connectivity in the developing nations.
