Idea launches 3G internet expressway on 900 MHz in Pune and Nashik

Idea today announced the commercial launch of its first ever 3G internet expressway in Pune and Nashik. Built on an existing solid foundation of 1,500 3G cell sites and over 1,540 modernised 2G sites, these extra 700 cell sites in these cities in the 900 MHz band will provide the additional capacity that data users are needing.  Within the next one month this count will be doubled.


Gauging from the increase in uptake of data in the region, Idea has expanded its 3G services on the most efficient 900 MHz band which has high-calibre transmission and propagation capabilities, will be a jam-free, high-speed, superior indoor internet coverage network. Idea’s 3G customers in these two cities will now have a much better experience while accessing services like video telephony, mobile TV, video on demand, music downloads, online gaming, amongst many others.
With a Revenue Market Share (RMS) of nearly 33%, (TRAI Reports) Idea has over 2.43 crore active consumers in the circle. It is also the No.1 MNP operator in the region with 11.7 lakh customers selecting Idea as their preferred network, since the launch of MNP. Across Maharashtra circle, Idea provides unmatched coverage on 2G and 3G in more than 34,000 towns and villages across the circle, with 8,500 3G cell sites and over 11,700 modernised 2G sites.

Speaking on the launch, Mr. Rajat Mukarji, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Idea Cellular, said, “Mobile users in the cities of Pune and Nashik are amongst the most highly evolved consumers in the country with high usage of both voice and data services. Over the last two years, Idea has invested heavily in acquiring spectrum in the most efficient 900 MHz band and is now setting up a future-ready, modernized network to cater to the growing demand of mobile users. We are confident that with the launch of 3G services on 900 MHz, the people in these cities will be able to meet their ever increasing demand in a far more efficient manner.”

Idea is rolling out a wide portfolio of products and services for its 3G customers in the city, ranging from 900 MHz dongles, bundled voice and data offers, sharing and customizable plans, amongst others.





Speaking on the service launch, Mr. Rajendra Chourasia, Chief Operating Officer – Maharashtra & Goa, Idea Cellular, said, “Idea has over 2.43 crore subscribers in the region with over 20% being Data users. The existing 3G users will experience enhanced services and product offerings, while the new subscribers will benefit from our affordable 3G tariffs and superior jam-free network offering better voice and data experience. We are also in the process of expanding our network of world-class service centres throughout the region.”
