According to a teardown by IHS Markit, it costs Samsung $307.50 (~Rs 19,900) to make the Galaxy S8. The total bill of materials for the 64GB variant of the phone is approximate $301.60 and adding manufacturing costs of $5.9, the final cost comes to $307.50. The report says that the Galaxy S8’s manufacturing and materials cost is $43.34 higher than the Galaxy S7.
The report also suggests that the Samsung Galaxy S8 costs more to make than the Apple iPhone 7 and Google Pixel XL flagships. While there is a massive difference between the bill of materials and retail cost, this estimate doesn’t include Samsung’s expenditure on research and development, marketing, and distribution, etc.
