Reliance Jio commercial 4G launch in October

Reliance Jio Infocomm’s 4G services is now expected to launch in October which was rumored to launch on August 15

Now According to brokerage firm CLSA, Reliance Jio will not immediately launch its 4G services but is expected to complete the rollout within the next three months. There is strong possibility that the commercial launch could happened ahead of the festive season in October.

While there are still no details about the rumoured August 15 Reliance Jio launch, we expect the operator to launch its post-paid services and also extend its Jio Preview offer to more handsets including those from Xiaomi and Lenovo.

In the meanwhile, Reliance Jio is already handling the second-highest data traffic in India compared to other operators with nearly 1.5 million subscribers using an average of 26 GB a month, which works out to 39 million GB.

Speaking about the analysis, CLSA said, “Several indicators suggest a strong possibility of commercial launch of Jio’s services within the next three months ahead of festive season in October…  Jio may already be handling the second-highest data traffic among all telecom operators and could ramp up close to the highest even before launch.

The free voice offer aims to hit incumbent operators such as Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India and Idea Cellular, which still draw 80% of their revenues from voice. To avail of the free voice plan, Jio subscribers will need to buy data packs, which will offer 1GB at around Rs 80, another person quoted earlier said. This compares with around Rs100-120 for 1GB offered by current operators.

The SIM cards came with three months of free unlimited data and 4,500 minutes of voice calls, suggesting that a commercial launch even if limited may be round the corner.

The telco, in early June, also launched Jio.com, the website through which consumers can register and obtain Jio connections. The new website has helped the company build a database of potential customers while providing a preview of Jio’s app-based content services such as MyJio, JioChat, Jio-Play, JioOnDemand, etc.
