After releasing a smart fan, action camera, streaming dongle and even TVs, Xiaomi is now getting into the shoes business. Not any kind of shoes, though, but the smart kind that can connect to your smartphone, Xiaomi’s bread-and-butter business.
The waterproof sneakers are made by Li-Ning, a local athlete brand, and sport a military grade motion sensor, as well as a Bluetooth chip inside the midsole.
The pressure and motion sensors inside register your walks and runs, then relay fitness stats to your pedometer or calorie counter health app. Xiaomi’s shoes cost just 199 yuan, which is about $32, and the battery is said to last more than a year. The Xiaomi smart shoes will officially go on sale from July 20 in China.
