Xiaomi Mi 5 is “worth waiting for” says CEO Lei Jun

Xiaomi unveiled the Redmi Note 3 and the Mi Pad 2 at a special event in China. The absence of the Xiaomi Mi 5 among the company’s newly-unveiled products did not go unnoticed by the Chinese media. When questioned regarding the company’s next flagship smartphone, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun said that the Mi 5 “is worth the waiting”, and that the phone is “very very good”.

Unfortunately, Jun did not provide any other details about the upcoming Xiaomi flagship, although he did note that Xiaomi is speeding up its development cycle, meaning that we should expect less time between the company’s product launches.

CEO also stated that its primary focus remains China, followed by other markets including India, Indonesia, and Brazil. As far as the company’s presence in Japan and the US goes, Lei Jun added that “it will take some time” before Xiaomi will attempt to establish a firm foothold in these regions.

As per previous leaks Xiaomi Mi5 will feature a 5.2-inch 2.5D glass with a 1440 x 2560 resolution, and it appears that Xiaomi will offer two variants of the phone. One will carry 3GB of RAM and 16GB of native storage, while the other will feature 4GB of RAM paired with 64GB of internal memory. A 16MP camera adorns the back of the unit, and a fingerprint scanner is included. It is all powered by the 3000mAh battery that comes with the model
