Ringing Bells announces “Cash on Delivery” payment option for Freedom 251 Smartphone

Ringing Bells  today announced a ‘cash on delivery’ payment option. Freedom 251 buyers won’t have to provide card details, and will only have to pay when the smartphone reaches their doorsteps.




It recently revealed that over seven crore had registered to buy the phone, but only 50 lakh handsets will be sold — 25 lakh online and 25 lakh via offline channels.Ringing Bells announced this new payment option on its Facebook page, saying that it will only be available for the first 25 lakh people who registered for the Freedom 251 online. As the name suggests, a customer will only need to pay for the handset when it arrives at their doorsteps.




Ringing Bells will import the first 50 lakh units of its handset, a government official said following a meeting with the company’s promoter. The firm had earlier claimed that making devices in India would help it sell a smartphone for as little as Rs. 251. Company has promised delivery of 50 lakh handsets by June 30. Of this 25 lakh will be online orders and 25 lakh would be those received offline

Ringing Bell has accepted payments for 30,000 units of the phone. components for these phones will be imported, and only assembled in India, not made here.

We don’t have the manufacturing unit yet, so of course we can’t start making these fully in India right now,” a spokesperson confirmed. “We will be importing the parts right now, but we will assemble fully in India, and in six to eight months, we will be in a position to start making fully in India,”

company confirmed that they have received payment for 30,000 handsets which has been parked in an escrow account.Ringing Bells had earlier said the amount (over Rs.75 lakh for 30,000 devices) has been deposited with the payment gateway as per guidelines and the company will claim payment only after submission of delivery proof.

Freedom 251 India’s cheapest smartphone has a 4-inch WVGA display, is powered by 1.3GHz quad-core processor with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage which is further expandable up to 32GB with microSD card.Smartphone supports 3G connectivity and runs on Android 5.1 (Lollipop). It has a 3.2-megapixel rear camera and a VGA front-facing camera. smartphone packed by a 1450mAH battery.
