Asus ZenFone Zoom S Review

Asus has introduced Zenfone Zoom S smartphone in India with Dual 12MP Rear Camera and 5000mAh Battery priced at Rs 26,999. Zenfone Zoom S worth the price tag lets find out in our full review.

Asus Zenfone Zoom S comes with Metal body.On the front there is a 13MP front camera, Notification LED, Earpiece and Sensor below the display there are three touch capacitive buttons.On the right side, there is a volume rocker and power button. On the left, there is a hybrid SIM slot. On the bottom, there is a USB Type-C port, 3.5mm audio jack, and a loudspeaker grill. On top there is a Microphone.

On the Rear, There is an antenna band running across the top and bottom portions of the phone.  there is a 12-megapixel camera with 25mm wide angle lens, f/1.7 aperture, Sony IMX362 sensor with 1.4μm pixel size along with a secondary 12-megapixel camera with a 56mm telephoto lens that offers 12x zoom and 2.3x optical zoom, Fingerprint Scanner and Asus branding below. The device weighs 170 grams.

 

 

 

 

 

On Display, Asus Zenfone Zoom S features a 5.5-inch, full-HD AMOLED Display with  Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection which produces rich, saturated colors and deep blacks. The panel also has a very good brightness level of 500nits.

Asus ZenFone Zoom S is powered by Snapdragon 625 octa-core Processor with 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage out of which 52GB is available for the user. On AnTuTu benchmark phone scores 6331 points, On GFXbench the phone scores 866 points on a Single core and 4288 points on Multicore.In terms of performance, there was no issue even while playing high-end games.

Asus ZenFone Zoom S runs on Android 7.1.1 with ZenUI on top of it. It comes with motion and touch gestures and one-handed mode, for those with smaller hands. Asus lets you customise the function of the recent apps key but you can’t change the long press functionality of the other keys if you want. preloaded apps include BeautyLive, which beautifies your face when you live stream on any supported social app Mobile Manager lets you monitor data usage, clean up junk files and free up system RAM, while ZenTalk lets is a forum for everything ZenFone. you can only disable these and not uninstall the unwanted app.There is also support for Dual Apps, multitasking between Apps works fine. ASUS has confirmed that Zenfone Zoom S will be getting Android 8.0 Oreo Update.

On Camera, it comes with Dual 12MP rear Camera. The primary sensor has a f/1.7 aperture, a 25mm focal length, and optical image stabilization. The second sensor has a f/2.6 aperture and a 59mm focal length, which is used for the ‘optically’ zooming into your subject.In the camera app, there’s a zoom button just before the shutter. At 2.3x zoom, the second camera kicks in, but only if the lighting is good. In less than ideal light, it sticks to the main camera so what you get is essentially digital zoom.

The maximum zoom level in still mode is 12x, while for video it’s 5x. You can switch to the second sensor only in Auto, Manual, and HDR Pro shooting modes. Rear Camera can record videos up to 4K. On the front, there is a 13-megapixel sensor which produces good selfies in both daylight and low light. The dual Rear camera produces good images in Indoor, Outdoor and Lowlight conditions, 2X Zoom also works fine, There is also a Portrait mode which works well in outdoor condition while struggles in low light or indoor conditions. Overall camera performance is good.

Connectivity options include Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, FM radio, GPS, and USB OTG. Reliance Jio VoLTE works. Also, there was no issue with voice calls. Fingerprint scanner working is Fast and Responsive. It has a 5-magnet setup with NXP Smart Amp.It has a  built-in DAC though, which supports 192KHz/24-bit quality audio files and DTS Headphone:X, for headphones. The bundled earphones offer good performance too. Overall Audio Output is Loud and clear. ZenFone Zoom S is Packed with a massive 5000mAh battery it does not support Fast charging but comes with 10W power adapter. It offers around 2 days of battery life on heavy use like using data, Voice calls, Music, Playing games, and recording videos, normal use it can last for more than 3 days.

ASUS ZenFone Zoom S comes in Navy Black and Glacier Silver colors, is priced at  Rs. 26,999 and is available exclusively from Flipkart which offers Good Rear Camera, Display, and Battery life. Asus should improve their software also. At this price range, there is OnePlus 3T and Honor 8 Pro which comes with High-end processors compared to the Midrange Snapdragon 625 on the Zenfone Zoom S.
