Selfies has been new trend now a days with that Asus launched their new smartphone in Zenfone series after the success Zenfone 2, Asus Zenfone Selfie in India which was announced at Computex 2015. Asus Zenfone selfie comes with both rear and front 13 Mega-pixel camera with LED flash , Asus Zenfone selfie comes in two variant 2GB RAM with 16GB ROM and 3GB RAM with 32GB ROM which comes in Pure White, Chic Pink, Aqua Blue, Glacier Gray, Sheer Gold and Glamour Red colors available on Flipkart. Design & Display
Asus Zenfone selfie looks quite similar to Zenfone 2 which was launched earlier this year with some more addition such as LED Flash on front camera. Asus Zenfone Selfie feature a 5.5-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) display with Pixel density of 403PPI and comes with Corning gorilla glass 4 protection that offers wide 178-degree viewing angles. The display provide great viewing angles in outdoor conditions overall colour on display looks good. On the front there is s a 13MP front-facing camera with Real tone LED flash, f/2.2 aperture, 88-degree wide-angle lens along with proximity sensors and earpiece. There is also a LED notification light.
Below the Display there are three capacitive touch buttons.
The power button,secondary microphone ,3.5mm audio jack Power On Button is present on the top which is similar to Asus Zenfone 2.
The micro USB port is present at the bottom along with a primary microphone. there is nothing on right and left side of the phone.
Now coming to back It has back panel with curve design at back which provides better grip to the device which is made up of plastic,phone has 13MP rear camera, the volume rockers and Asus branding at the center. Zenfone logo and loudspeaker grill at the lower back.Overall the design and build Quality of phone is good. Asus zenfone Selfie Measure a 156.5 x 77.2 x 10.8mm and weights at 170 grams .the device is quite big and little bit difficult to use in One hand. There are some Gestures such as One hand Operation we will talk about it in More detail in software section.
Performance
Asus Zenfone Selfie is powered by Qualcomm octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor which is clocked at 1.65GHz and Adreno 405 GPU instead of Intel processor which were used in previous gen Zenfone model. Which is further paired with 3GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage out of which 24.82 GB available for user on first boot which is further expandable up to 128 GB via MicroSD card. The user interface runs flawlessly. We tried playing some games like Asphalt 8 Real racing we didn’t face any lag or frame drop although it did cause slight heating on the back Not enough to burn your hand. Under normal condtion the devices works fine with No much lag or heating issue. We tried running some benchmark apps on Antutu benchmark the phone scores 36443 which is close to Samsung Galaxy note 4. On Geekbench 3 the device scores 469 on single core and 1966 on Multi core. On Quadrant Standard phone scores 21090 points.
Camera
On camera it has 13MP rear camera Toshiba sensors with f/2.0 aperture, include dual-LED Real Tone flash technology for perfect illumination in any lighting conditions. and Laser Auto Focus and exceptional front-facing PixelMaster camera has a huge 13MP resolution and an f/2.2-aperture, 88-degree wide-angle lens to capture more of every smile. With the unique Selfie Panorama mode, you’re able to shoot selfies with an outlook of up to 140 degrees.ZenFone Selfie’s PixelMaster camera technology includes backlight (Super HDR) technology to improve light balance, capturing lifelike shots every time. Special pixel-enhancing technology enables up to 400%- batter brightness in dark and shaded areas, the photos you capture look just what your eyes see.
The rear camera’s laser autofocus works well enough, getting the focus on the object within seconds. Photo quality by the rear camera is similar to what we saw with the front camera, offering similar levels of details, contrast and colours. However, you get a little less noise in lowlight situations, due to the relatively wider f/2.0 aperture. Both camera shoots well in indoor settings, while producing average outdoor shots that have appear washed out in daylight. The laser autofocus and macro focus capabilities ensure excellent indoor shots and close-ups. The laser autofocus system is quick and accurate, ensuring good, properly focused shots most of the time.
The camera app comes with a number of shooting modes, like Beautification, Auto, Manual, Night, Low Light, and even HDR and Depth of Field. standard automatic mode, a detailed manual mode, HDR, panorama, smart remove, slow motion, GIF animation and time lapse Beautification mode lets you set timer of up to 5 seconds while capturing photos; shots taken in this mode remove all imperfections from your face, and like Beauty modes in other phones, give a glazed look to the photo. However, under lowlight conditions, photos touched up by Beautification mode will be the best for Facebook, Instagram . Software
Asus Zenfone Selfie runs on Android 5.0.2 (Lollipop) with ZenUI on top of It. ZenUI has a lot of bloatware and duplicate apps. you can’t uninstall these preloaded apps but at least you can disable them. The software supports double tap to wake up screen, gestures, one-hand operations, and glove mode Asus has given a few options personalization options, like customizing what toggles to show when you bring down the notifications bar. You can also select what long-pressing the Tasks key will do: take a screenshot, show menu, or do nothing. The software also lets you choose where to store apps when you download them: internal storage or microSD card.
The phone has an Easy Mode, which removes most of the UI elements and makes the phone easier to use with the help of big icons and simple layout. You can choose which apps and widgets to add to the homescreen. Asus also lets you select the home screen options, the menu layout, and gives a number of themes, wallpapers, scroll effects, and icon packs when you long-press the home screen. Asus AudioWizard is the smart software that provides the best listening experience in different scenarios, including Movie Mode, Gaming Mode, Keynote Mode, Music Mode, and Smart Mode. On connectivity, Zenfone Selfie includes 4G LTE / 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS.The Phone supports Dual 4G on both SIM card.There is MicroSD support up to 128 GB with also OTG support. Overall Audio on the device is quite clear both while playing music and on phone calls. Asus Zenfone Selfie is packed by a 3000mAh battery which is removable which able to deliver One day of battery life on Normal usage. while playing games, Using web other social media accounts we got battery backups of 12-13 hours though there are lot of apps running in the background. The phone also comes with Auto power saving mode.
Asus Zenfone Selfie is priced at Rs 15,999 for 2GB RAM with 16GB internal storage and Rs 17,999 for 3GB RAM with 32 GB of internal storage. let’s talk what we like about the device overall device performance is good works without any issue with a decent rear and front camera in both daylight as well as low light . The volume rockers available on the back should have been on the Right side. Power button on Top but there are gestures like double tap wake up so not a big issue. It better to buy 3GB variant.
