Apple has unveiled iOS 27 at WWDC 2026. iOS 27 update introduces a significant overhaul to the Siri assistant, integrates advanced Apple Intelligence features across native applications, updates child safety management, and improves core system performance.
Siri AI and System Integration
Dedicated Siri App: The assistant transitions from a purely voice-activated overlay to including a dedicated application. This space consolidates past conversations, allows users to pin specific threads, and syncs across devices so users can resume interactions on an iPad.
Contextual and Multi-App Action: Siri AI can parse personal context to locate specific emails, notes, or older photos based on vague descriptions. It can also execute multi-step actions across native applications in real-time, such as modifying a recently sent message or adding a background track to a playlist.
Camera Integration: A new Siri mode built directly into the native Camera viewfinder allows users to initiate visual searches of objects, text, or landmarks immediately while framing a shot.
Apple Intelligence and App Refinements
Photographic Tools
The Photos application integrates new editing capabilities:
- Spatial Reframing: Allows users to adjust the composition and framing of a photograph after it has been taken.
- Extend Tool: Uses generative AI to expand the boundaries of an image.
- Enhanced Clean Up: Removes larger unwanted objects or background distractions from photos more precisely.
- Image Playground: A standalone creative space where users can generate high-quality images and graphics across multiple visual styles based on text prompts.
Productivity and Automation
Safari Updates: The native browser now automatically groups open tabs into distinct topics based on content relevancy. A new feature called Safari Notify Me monitors specific web pages for changes, alerting users to event updates, restocks, or price fluctuations.
Call Context: When calling registered businesses, this feature scans relevant data from other apps (such as travel verification codes in Mail) and surfaces them proactively during the call.
Shortcuts and Passwords: The Shortcuts app allows users to create automation sequences entirely through natural language descriptions. Concurrently, the Passwords app can automatically detect weak or compromised credentials and update them natively on the user’s behalf.
Expanded Child Safety Infrastructure
iOS 27 introduces restructured parental controls aimed at simplifying mobile security management for families.
Setup Framework: During initial device setup, parents can select predefined or custom app tiers (Essential or Recommended) to dictate exactly what system applications are accessible.
Ask to Browse: This gatekeeping feature requires children to request permission before visiting new websites. The permission request is routed directly to the parent’s Messages app for approval or denial.
Communication Safety: Building upon existing nudity detection in Messages and FaceTime, the system expands its protective filters to intervene before a child views images or videos containing explicit violence or gore.
Age-Based Screen Limits: Time Allowances can be assigned to broad application categories (e.g., Social Media or Entertainment). These limits feature dynamic templates built alongside clinical child development experts, which parents can manually override.
Liquid Glass UI Updated rendering engine for more uniform refraction, sharper icons, and an adjustable clarity-to-tint slider.
Network Transitions Smoother switching logic between Wi-Fi and cellular networks to prevent dropped calls.
Accessibility: VoiceOver gains more comprehensive scene descriptions and native Action Button integration. A new system-wide captioning tool automatically generates subtitles for any streaming video and can translate those captions in real-time.
Smart Home & Maps: The Home app utilizes AI to summarize security footage from HomeKit Secure Video devices, group notifications, and allow text-based searches for specific events. Cameras now support streaming and recording in 4K. Meanwhile, Maps upgrades its Flyover mode by blending aerial photography with visual intelligence to render detailed architectural and environmental features.
Health: The Health app adds targeted perimenopause and menopause tracking within its Cycle Tracking suite, identifying irregular patterns and providing medical educational resources.
iCloud Shared Albums: Platform interoperability is expanded, allowing Android and Windows users to view and contribute full-resolution images directly through iCloud.com.

Developers can now test it now through the Apple Developer Program. A public beta arrives next month via the Apple Beta Software Program. The free update for iPhone 11 and newer models launches this fall. Siri AI will be available in beta later this year and requires an Apple Intelligence–enabled device set to a supported language.
