In preparation for the launch of its 4G services in the state in August, Reliance Jio has laid nearly four thousand kilometres of fibre optic cables across Goa. According to the company, 4G services are already being tested by beta subscribers who came on board through a referral scheme.

“As on today, we are ready. The company wants to have 10 times the quality and speed that is currently available in the market and we are not there yet. We are working on it,” a senior Reliance Jio official said.
Reliance Jio is the only cellular service provider to hold a pan-India license in the 4G spectrum but unlike other cellular service providers, Reliance Jio will offer only 4G LTE connectivity and not 3G or 2G services.
The company has installed several ground-based masts (towers) across the state which are connected to a wide network of underground fiber optic cables to provide robust cellular strength, a company official said.
The Mukesh Ambani-led company had a soft launch of 4G services in April when the company employees were invited to try out the service. Since then, the company has initiated a referral system for beta users. “Everyday 75-100 new customers are added,” the company official said.
IIT Bombay’s department of electrical engineering in January said in a report that the Reliance Jio towers were 100% compliant with the domestic telecom norms and international standards.

In a bid to reduce the footprint of the towers, the company has also got rid of diesel generator units to run the towers and has, instead, installed 6KVA battery backup.
