Chinese telecom equipment manufacturer Coolpad will launch its flagship brands in the market in early 2016. Following the tie-up with Videocon to assemble a line of made in India smartphones, the company will also roll out 5 lakh handsets by first quarter of 2016.
At the launch of their budget category fingerprint scanner smartphone in Hyderabad, Syed Tajuddin chief executive officer of Coolpad India, added that the equipment manufacturer will also explore retailing through offline channels in 2016. Currently it retails its products through online marketplace Amazon.
“We have earmarked Rs 1980 crores for an R&D centre in India and will look at manufacturing eventually,” said Tajuddin. He was in Hyderabad for the launch of Coolpad Note 3, smartphone with fingerprint scanner which has sold close to 1 lakh pieces on Amazon already.
The manufacturers already have 244 service centres across the country, including 17 across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 2004, the company currently has six global R&D centres across US and China.
