Vodafone M- Pesa Pay launched

Vodafone today launched Vodafone M-Pesa PAY, an easy and ready to use digital payment solution to enable merchants and retailers to receive payments from their customers without any exchange of cash.

To start using this exceedingly friendly digital payment solution, retailers and merchants simply have to download Vodafone M-Pesa app and register for Vodafone M-Pesa PAY as a merchant. Once registered, they can notify the individual customer to make the payment due. Customers just need to click on the notification and make payment digitally using their M-Pesa wallet, bank account, and debit or credit card in a completely seamless, worry-free and secure manner.

Vodafone has undertaken across-country drive to educate and onboard retailers, merchants and consumers to start using Vodafone M-Pesa PAY, as the preferred solution for receiving and making payments. It is building on its established countrywide telecom distribution footprint to drive the adoption of digital payments and usage of Vodafone M-Pesa PAY amongst the retail and trading community, both in urban locations as well as in the hinterland, where such solutions are most needed.

Vodafone M-Pesa has pioneered numerous digital payment initiatives in India while associating with several government initiatives and developmental sector organizations. This include:



  • Direct benefit transfer in 10 states to genuine beneficiaries via subsidy, pensions or support
  • Enabling cash collection  across 450 locations in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu for Water Health India
  • Disbursement, collection and digitization of loans in 22 locations for partnering with MFIs such as Bharat Financial Inclusion Limited (erstwhile SKS Microfinance) and Muthoot MFI
  • Facilitating payments to artisans for Jaipur Rugs, India’s largest rugs manufacturer

Vodafone M-Pesa is the ideal digital wallet for everyone for it is available both as an app and also in USSD mode via short code *400# for all mobile phone subscribers to access and use. It empowers users to digitize cash, make payments for utilities, undertake transactions such as bill payment, recharges, remit to family and friends and/or withdraw cash at their convenience from nearly 1,30,000 touch points across the country.

Users of Vodafone M-Pesa digital wallet enjoy a variety of benefits when they pay bills, shop and undertake select transactions. This includes up to 5% cash back (up to a maximum limit) for new customers for 3 months, attractive cash back offer of up to Rs. 500 from shopclues.com on select merchandise, 0.75% cash back on payments made to purchase petrol and full talk time on Vodafone prepaid packs of select denominations. Further, person to person remittance (transferring money to a mobile number) and loading the wallet though any online mode – credit/debit card and internet banking is completely free.
