At Tech World 2016 Lenovo will launch the world’s first consumer Project Tango-enabled smartphone in partnership with Google. Project Tango brings augmented reality to your smartphone, including gaming, navigation, and other utilities. This device gives you a totally new way to experience the world – enabling you to do things never imagined, from indoor mapping your way around a museum to creating a 3D gaming environment to visualizing how a new refrigerator fits into your kitchen.

Lenovo will also announce new mobile technology designed by Motorola that will dramatically change the way people think about and use their most personal devices – in a snap.

“Innovation is at the heart of everything we do,” said Yang Yuanqing, chairman and CEO, Lenovo. “Lenovo is no longer just a PC or Smartphone company.  Lenovo will play a role in developing new smart devices, delivering the smart connectivity required to enable new services and experiences, and providing the infrastructure that makes the new connected world possible.

Lenovo will also share a glimpse of some of the most interesting technology concepts from our labs around the world. These concepts represent the creativity, experimentation and imagination of hundreds of Lenovo and Motorola engineers, designers, and developers across three continents.

Project Tango combines 3D motion tracking with depth sensors to give a mobile device the ability to know where it is and how it moves through an area, creating the potential to use augmented reality features on the phone. The augmented reality software, then overlays text or graphics on the real-life image. It differs from virtual reality, which sees to simulate real-world views.

The phone should boost Lenovo’s presence in mature markets such as North America, where the smartphone market shrunk slightly last year, by 0.4%, according to data from research firm Canalys. “If you want to access the mature markets you need two things: innovative products and a premium brand,” Yuanqing said.
