Xiaomi at MWC 2016 announced their Flagship smartphone Xiaomi Mi5 which was launched in India last Month Xiaomi has launched only one variant of Mi5 in India which offers 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. No details on when they will launch 64GB model in India there is also a Pro variant which comes with 4GB of RAM and 128GB ROM with ceramic back which Let’s find out its worth to Buy Mi5 at Rs 24,999 in our Review
Design and Display
Xiaomi Mi 5 has 5.15-inch Display on the top we have Mi logo earpiece notification LED front facing camera below the display there is Fingerprint scanner enabled in Home Button which is Xiaomi’s first smartphone to feature Fingerprint scanner on Front coming to bottom of display we have speaker Grill and USB Type C connector on the right we have Volume rockers and Power switch button both provide good feedback on the left side it has a SIM tray which supports Dual nano SIM card, No microSD card support. On the top we have 3.5 mm audio jack IR blaster, Noise cancellation microphone, Xiaomi Mi 5 has Metal strip on Side of display. It has a curved back which is made up of Glass which we have seen on Mi Note series On the back there is 16-megapixel primary camera with a dual-tone LED flash and Mi Logo at the bottom. Xiaomi Mi 5 is made up of Glass both on front and Back with metal strip on side with curved edges Mi 5 measure 144.55×69.2×
7.25mm and Weights 129g which is lighter than Samsung Galaxy S7 and iPhone 6S.
Xiaomi has used 1080P display rather than 2K display which we have seen on other flagships smartphones recently Mi5 has a 5.15-inch (1920×1080 pixels) Full HD display with 600 nits brightness and comes with Corning gorilla glass 4 protection which is scratch proof we notice
scratches on Display of Mi5 (According to Xiaomi customer care Mi5 does not come with gorilla glass 4 protection) Overall display performance is good both in Indoor, as well as outdoor conditions colors, looks vibrant
Performance
Xiaomi Mi 5 is powered by a 1.8 GHz Snapdragon 820 64-bit Quad-Core processor with Adreno 530 GPU coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage also comes with a 2,15 GHz Snapdragon 820 64-bit Quad-Core processor with Adreno 530 GPU coupled with 4 GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage which is not yet launched in India , we played some games on Mi 5 like Candy Crush Saga and Subway Surfers , Asphalt 8 Airborne and Modern Combat games run well with out any issue but we notice heating issues while Playing high-end games and also while using the internet on Mobile data, Overall performance of device while playing low ends games or while on normal use phone did not heat up as . Xiaomi Mi 5 in India comes with Only 32GB of internal storage out of which 25GB is available for user with no microSD card support .we also run some benchmark apps On AnTuTu Benchmark phone scores 103531 points , On Geekbench 3 phone scores 1907 points on single core and 4642 on Multi core where as on Quadrant standard phone score 36086 points, Snapdragon 820 performs well in our test without any lag of device but notice some heating issues .
Camera
Xiaomi Mi 5 has a 16-megapixel rear camera Sony IMX298 sensor with a dual-tone LED flash which can shoot 4K videos and a 4-megapixel front camera with 2-micron pixels which is capable of shooting Full HD Videos, Xiaomi has also included our-axis optical image stabilization for the rear camera, which helps immensely when taking quick shots and videos. Rear camera captures some good images in day light and outdoor conditions images captured during low light or indoor conditions are not up to mark while the Ultra pixel on front camera clicks good images, Both rear and front camera captures good videos. Xiaomi camera app comes with some modes such as HDR, flash and the camera switching. Swiping from the right brings up the filters while swiping from the left shows the various modes, including a timer, panorama, manual and more.
Software
Xiaomi Mi 5 runs on Android 6.0 with its own MIUI 7 on top of it there is no app drawer all apps will be on screen only, MIUI comes with built-in Theme support, Child lock, App lock feature, can enable guest mode. MIUI 7 also comes with Mi Mover which can be used to transfer data from your previous Android smartphone.also include reading mode, One hand mode, do not disturb mode options,MIUI gives users options for customization options we notice sudden closing of apps sometimes yes MIUI 7 needs improvements check some of the screenshots of user interface below
Connectivity
Connectivity options include 4G LTE with VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n/ac dual-band (MIMO), Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, NFC, USB Type-C, Device also supports IR Blaster which works fine with Built in App ,Xiaomi Mi 5 comes with a Single speaker on the bottom audio quality of device is quite clear but not loud as we have seen in some other Mid-range smartphones , Output via headphones are loud and clear also while on calls we did not face any issue Device supports Dual Nano SIM cards which is not a Hybrid SIM Slot. both SIM supports 4G connectivity, Yes we had notice issue on Second SIM Slot while our review Network goes off and comes back in few seconds we have seen this issue with Redmi Note 3 this could be a Software bug.
Fingerprint Scanner
As mentioned above Mi 5 comes with a Fingerprint scanner on Home button which is fast and Quick, we can add up to Five fingerprints and which also supports App locking through Fingerprints, Xiaomi Mi 5 Fingerprint scanner works faster than on Galaxy S7.
Battery
Xiaomi Mi 5 packed by a 3000 mAh nonremovable battery that supports fast charging. Xiaomi Mi 5 can provide battery back up of 14-15 Hours of battery life on WiFi battery life on Mobile data on 4G or 3G is not up to mark can get around 3-4 Hours of Screen on Time, Overall battery performance of devices is not up to mark as expected to be in a Flagship smartphone
Xiaomi Mi 5 is priced at Rs 24,999 Let’s talk about pros and cons, Pros Design & Display Fingerprint scanner 16MP rear camera, all new Snapdragon 820 SoC. Cons Heating issue, Software issues, Only 32GB storage No microSD card, Battery Backup not so good
