In terms of Design ROG Phone 2 looks different from normal smartphones. It looks similar to ROG Phone, On the front, it has a 6.59-inch Display with Stereo Speakers, bezels on top and bottom Notification LED, Power, volume buttons, Air triggers are placed on the right side. On left there is a SIM card slot, Dual USB Type C port for charging and accessories.
On the bottom, there is USB Type C port for charging and 3.5mm headphone jack. On Rear, it has a Dual Rear Camera Setup with two LED flash, exposed air vent, ROG logo which light up and branding. The phone measures 170.99×77.6×9.78mm and Weight: 240g. The build quality is good, Phone is heavy and big, not possible to use in a single hand.
It comes with a 6.59-inch AMOLED FHD+ display support for 120Hz refresh rate,10-bit HDR, 600nits brightness which is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 6. It produces good colors and a Viewing angle. It is powered by Snapdragon 855+ processor with 8/12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128/512GB of UFS 3.0 internal storage. We have been using an 8GB RAM model.120Hz refresh rate makes scrolling through apps smooth and while playing games, Not all Games support a 120Hz refresh rate. While playing games for a long time, the phone does get heat up near side-mounted Type-C port. overall performance is smooth we didn’t face lag while switching Apps or games. The gaming experience is properly one of the best in this price range.
There is support for AirTrigger buttons on the right side, AirTriggers menu lets you add ‘squeeze’ gestures for the bottom trigger, which can launch an action or an app with a short or a long squeeze. three-layer cooling system, vapor chamber, a heat sink and vents for heat dissipation on the back cover. Plus, there is an improved Aero active cooler accessory also available for the phone. The Aero Active Cooler II is now 4x quieter with improved airflow design and can bring down the temperature of the phone by 5 degrees.
ROG Phone 2 runs Android 9.0 with a customized user interface. It comes with Armoury Crate When you launch it, you can see details about your phone’s temperature as well as choose game profiles, customize air trigger buttons and manage hardware for performance. Game Genie from within the Armoury Crate where you can manage incoming notifications, system temperature, and CPU and GPU usage in real-time. Change ROG Logo lighting, enable X Mode and more.
ROG Phone 2 comes with a 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 sensor, with an f/1.79 aperture, PDAF,13-megapixel wide-angle lens and 24-megapixel front camera with an f/2.0 aperture. Camera App includes Motion Tracking, Pro, Night, Portrait mode. The Rear Camera can record 4K Videos that do not support OIS. It has support for EIS. Rear Camera captures good images in daylight conditions, Low light is decent. Front Camera captures good selfies, portrait mode lets you adjust blur effect. Video recording is decent.
Connectivity options include Dual 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11ac dual-band (2×2 MU-MIMO ) / 802.11ad 60GHz, Bluetooth 5, GPS/GLONASS/Beidou, Galileo(E1+E5a), QZSS(L1+L5), USB Type-C, NFC. It comes with an In-Display fingerprint scanner which works fast, face unlock also works well. Audio output from 3.5mm audio jack, the speaker is loud and clear. The call quality is good.
ROG Phone 2 is backed by a 6000mAh battery which has support for an 18W charger in the Box. There is support for a 30W fast charger. With Box, charger phone takes around 2 hours to charge fully. ROG 2 phone is able to deliver more than one day of battery life in normal use. With heavy gaming, the phone can easily last for one day.
